Lauren Radakovich, LMHC
As an Ecotherapist and new Florida resident, Lauren has enjoyed immersing herself in many of Sarasota’s natural wonders such as the sandy coastlines, pine forests, or the rich variety of wildlife. For close to ten years Lauren has studied (both professionally and personally) the human/nature relationship and its impacts on our overall well being.
Education
A midwest native, Lauren graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor’s in Social work and began her graduate study of Ecotherapy while living on the Southwest coast of Ireland, Zooming out into the field of Sociology (studying patterns within society) she completed a research-based thesis on Nature’s ability to help people manage stress through mindfulness and connection. She returned stateside to witness her research firsthand while working with at-risk youth in a Florida wilderness residential setting. This led her to pursue Ecotherapy clinically through an MA in Mental Health Counseling in Portland, Oregon where she obtained a certificate and professional training in Ecopsychology. Similar to Ireland’s green landscape, the rolling hills of rural Oregon provided a fertile environment for healing a variety of conditions such as anxiety, depression, and traumatic experiences.
Outside of Sessions
In her free time, you can find Lauren tending to her many plants, taking long walks in the park, eating all the Italian food she can, or playing with her two cats.
“Nature is not separate from us, but rather a part of us. When we heal our relationship with Nature, we recognize the interconnectedness of all life on this planet. When we return to nature, we return to ourselves.”
Specializations
Through modalities such as mindfulness, breathwork, and somatic techniques, Lauren helps her clients rekindle a sense of connection to their natural environment, their community, and most importantly themselves. She believes that much of the healing process, especially after trauma, involves an awakening to our natural self (or center) and recreating experiences in which we feel not only safe but also alive in the present moment. This process also helps people reconnect to their playful, creative, or spiritual self, accepting along the way the wild messiness that comes with being a human.
Trainings
Lauren has also received and continues training in Gestalt Therapy, Expressive Arts therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the State of Florida and a long time practitioner of meditation and yoga, and many Eastern themes of wholeness inspire her work with clients.
